Prospective Governing Members must first join as regular Science Center and Museum Members, and be in operation 365 days before applying for Governing status.
To qualify for ASTC Governing Membership,
your institution must also meet these criteria:
- have as its primary mission to increase the public understanding
of science;
- engage in activities meant to increase public understanding
of science and technology;
- provide exhibits, programs, and activities addressing a broad
spectrum of scientific disciplines and topics such as physical
sciences, natural sciences, mathematics, and technology;
- use a broad array of delivery techniques for science learning
experiences that include experiential, tactile, and kinesthetic
exhibits; and participatory programs, hands-on activities, and
inquiry-based learning;
- show dedication to the use of informal learning methods;
- serve as a resource for a community's science education needs;
- be a nonprofit or not-for-profit organization;
- identify itself as a science center/museum;
- operate one or more physical sites that are staffed and open
to the public at least 1,800 hours per year and six days per
week; and
- have an annual operating budget of at least U.S. $250,000
(or equivalent).
If your institution meets these criteria, complete an application
and send it with the supporting materials specified in Section IV
of the application to:
