A prospective Independent Contractor/Consultant is an individual who:
directs his/her own work;
maintains his/her own office;
controls the means of performing his/her services;
does not own a staffed commerical entity or have employees (A general rule is that anyone who performs services for you is your employee if you can control what will be done and how it will be done. See IRS publication 1779 for details, if your business is in the United States);
works on behalf of several science centers/museums or informal science education settings; and
supplies equipment and materials to do his/her work.
If you meet these criteria, complete an application and send it along with the required materials and the annual dues amount of US$ 350.00.
