We are pleased to announce that ASTC has been accepted as a partner in the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) initiative. UNAI is a global initiative that aligns higher education institutions with the United Nations (UN) in advancing the UN’s goals through activities and research.
As a partner, ASTC will promote the activities of the UNAI and distribute relevant information to our members, and the UN will, in turn, disseminate information on ASTC programs and activities. ASTC will also be involved in discussions regarding speakers and topics for the annual UNAI conference. UNAI will organize a discussion with young scientists to contribute questions and topics for debate at the 2015 ASTC Annual Conference in Montreal.
This partnership will also involve ASTC supporting the dissemination of the UN’s new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) beginning in October and running through the Science Centre World Summit in November 2017. There will be 17 SDGs and ASTC will invite our member institutions to contribute blog posts related to each goal’s significance to the work of science centers. ASTC will use these blogs and related resources as catalysts for discussions on our online platforms. These blog posts, resources, and discussions will be used to create a master resource that will debut at the 2017 Science Centre World Summit.
More information about ASTC’s involvement with the UN Academic Impact Initiative will be released through ASTC communications, so stay tuned. For more information on the United Nations Academic Impact, visit academicimpact.un.org.
