Advertisements. They're everywhere these days: on television, on the radio, in newspapers and magazines, even on your computer via the World Wide Web. How do they influence us as consumers? Find samples of different types of ads for the same item (soda, detergent, snack food) with different types of packaging. Discuss the purpose of advertising and how it influences what you buy. Do the ads have anything to do with the quality or function of the products? Do you purchase name-brand items rather than generic? If so, why? What kinds of environmentally-conscious choices can you make the next time you shop?
