Talking Nano DVD Video Set
Museum of Science, Boston, 2008
#208

Talking Nano, a six-DVD video set, features leading nanotechnology researchers demonstrating and explaining cutting-edge concepts. These talks illuminate the basic concepts of nanotechnology, potential applications, and future impacts. The presentations are suitable for a wide range of audiences and are intended for museum, school, and professional audiences.

Museum educator Tim Miller gives “A Brief Intro to Nano.” Don Eigler—accompanied by his service dog, Argon— introduces “my world of atoms” and demonstrates the intricacy of moving a single atom, live on camera. Eric Mazur connects reflection and refraction to future lightning-quick advances in optical computing. George Whitesides explains the spirit of technological innovation and the ways in which potential nanotech applications may influence the way we live and work. David Rejeski takes a revealing look at questions of consumer safety, oversight, and public opinion.

The bonus disk, The Amazing Nano Brothers Juggling Show, provides the entertainment highlight of the series. Two very talented guys juggle their way through the basics of atomic structure, nanoscale forces, and scanning probe microscopy—sometimes from atop seven-foot unicycles. 191 minutes.

$32 for ASTC members; $35 for nonmembers. Shipping and handling extra.
