Lights On Afterschool (LOA) is the only nationwide event celebrating afterschool programs and their important role in the lives of children, families, and communities. ASTC-member institutions were given to opportunity to apply for mini-grants to support a Lights On Afterschool event and create a partnership with a local afterschool provider. LOA grantees highlighted ways in which their collaborations with afterschool programs have benefited both organizations and strengthened community partnership-building in a webinar following the LOA events.
The Afterschool for All Challenge brings educators and afterschool decision makers together with U.S. Representatives and Senators to communicate the impact and importance of federal investments in afterschool programs. This year, five science centers brought youth from their afterschool programs to Washington, D.C. to participate in the Afterschool for All Challenge and gave them the experience of advocating directly to policy makers.
