On Tuesday, the Connecticut Science Center (CSC) rolled out the red carpet, opened all the doors, and invited all conference participants to meet the entire team at CSC during Museum Experience Day. All the CSC exhibitions and programs provided a playground for exploration and discussion, and additional networking among conferencegoers.
CSC staff members also pulled back the “velvet ropes” for their visiting colleagues and provided unprecedented VIP access with behind-the-scenes tours of the inner workings of the science center, both front- and back-of-house operations.
In a series of workshops and pop-up question-and-answer sessions, they shared their best practices and favorite lessons learned in operations, exhibits, programming, administration, butterflies, teacher professional development, and much more.
The slightly irreverent and always constructive annual Exhibit Walking Workshop, led by professionals in the fields of exhibit development, design, and visitor interactions, toured Connecticut Science Center’s Engineering Lab and Exploring Space exhibitions, providing the inside scoop from CSC staff on how the galleries came to be and highlighting aspects that might be done differently in future projects.
Big Screen Day, sponsored by the Giant Screen Cinema Association, hosted a parade of nine large-screen films in CSC’s 200-seat, large screen digital theater, taking attendees into the wilderness of backyards, the Great Barrier Reef, the music of America and its roots around the world, volcanoes, the Earth’s oceans, the world of turtles, our planet’s deep geology, and more.
