An Anniversary Update

Today I’m celebrating one year of service as ASTC’s President and CEO. I remain honored to serve you and our science-center and science-museum field. I’m inspired by the work you do every day to engage more people in science, technology, and innovation, to the benefit of your communities. On this first anniversary of my tenure at ASTC, I’m sharing below this member update from ASTC Board Chair Guy Labine and me. Thank you for being so welcoming to me over the past year! All best,
—Cristin Dorgelo, ASTC President and CEO

Dear ASTC Members:

Listening session at Science North in Sudbury, Ontario

We value your continued participation, and that of your team members, in the ASTC community. We have an exciting year ahead together!

During our extensive listening process in 2018, we heard from hundreds of member representatives in a variety of interactive forums. You shared with us the opportunities you see for the future of science centers, science museums, and informal science learning, and you suggested ways that ASTC, as your advocate and professional network, could support your future success.

This year, ASTC will set course for an exciting new vision and strategy for the association’s future. While the ASTC Board of Directors and staff have more strategic planning work to do in the coming months, we’re confident that this strategy will respond to the feedback and ideas you shared with us through the course of our member listening and engagement, including your clear call for ASTC to:

  • Make a strong case for your institution’s work through advocacy and strategic communications;
  • Support you and your team in identifying, responding to, and leading future trends; and
  • Connect you to other current and emerging leaders for idea exchange, learning, and collaboration.

To be ready to implement our new strategy, ASTC has been working to update the association’s operations and infrastructure. One of the specific infrastructure investments that will improve your ASTC experience is a new membership database and online interface. As we launch this new system this year, we will be able to give you easier, individual, and customizable access to valuable information, professional-growth opportunities, and improved connections to networks of your peers and other experts.

In addition, just as the 2018 ASTC Annual Conference delivered high-value inspiration and new connections for you, we’re excited to see you at the 2019 ASTC Annual Conference in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, where from September 21 to 24 we’ll explore the future of the field together, with the exciting theme of “Moonshots: Rendezvous with the Future.” Make sure to save the dates!

Sincerely,
