Looking for ways to partner with afterschool organizations in your community? Want to hear how other members of the ASTC community have developed and used these partnerships? Over the past year, ASTC and the Afterschool Alliance have worked together through our Commitment to Action for the Clinton Global Initiative to foster partnerships between science centers and afterschool organizations through two programs: Lights on Afterschool minigrants and the Afterschool for All Challenge. Join us and participating science centers on April 7 at 2:00 p.m. ET to learn more about the partnerships created through these programs.
Lights On Afterschool (LOA) is the only nationwide event celebrating afterschool programs and their important role in the lives of children, families, and communities. Hear directly from ASTC-member institutions that received minigrants to support a Lights On Afterschool event and create a partnership with a local afterschool provider. LOA grantees will highlight ways in which their collaborations with afterschool programs have benefited both organizations, and strengthened community partnership-building.
The Afterschool for All Challenge brings educators and afterschool decision makers together with U.S. Representatives and Senators to communicate the impact and importance of federal investments in afterschool programs. This year, five science centers brought youth from their afterschool programs to Washington, D.C. to participate in the Afterschool for All Challenge and gave them the experience of advocating directly to policy makers.
