Mission: “To ignite creativity, spark curiosity, and inspire learning in visitors of all ages by providing a rich variety of interactive, hands-on exhibits and programs that focus on the sciences and mathematics, the humanities, and the arts.”
The Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum was started in 1993 as a response to the need for additional science and cultural activities outside of the classroom. All of the museum’s exhibits and programs are interactive and multi-sensory, and visitors are encouraged to have fun and use their imaginations. The museum hosts regular weekly and monthly programs, such as
- Grand Hours, where grandparents receive admission at half price and special programming is presented;
- Visiting Artist Series, during which a family-friendly art or craft project is presented;
- Astronomy Night, giving visitors the opportunity to learn about planets and space during an evening under the stars; and
- Family Engineering Challenges, which bring families together to solve an engineering problem.
The museum also has a plethora of field trip and outreach programs, like Investigating Insects and Roller Coaster Physics.
