What are you passionate about?

“No history, no self. Know history, know self” is a quote from Dr. Jose P. Rizal, a Filipino revolutionary and national hero that really resonates with me. As the daughter of Vietnamese refugees, I spend a lot of time and energy researching my peoples’ history from multiple perspectives. Having a nuanced understanding of who I am and where I come from is key to my work as an artist, community organizer, and youth worker. When I see substance abuse problems in my community, I know it’s not random, but how my people cope from the trauma of displacement, war, and colonization.
