The Board advises the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) on general policies with respect to the duties, powers, and authority of the IMLS relating to museum, library, and information services, as well as the annual selection of recipients of the National Medals for Museum and Library Service.

Harris has served as President and CEO at Space Center Houston since April 2016, where he oversees the strategic direction of the nonprofit science and space exploration learning center, which is also a Smithsonian Affiliate and the Official Visitor Center of NASA Johnson Space Center. He was previously Senior Vice President of Development and Marketing at the California Science Museum Foundation, where he guided all external affairs.

In addition to his service as Chair of ASTC Board of Directors, Harris is Vice President of the Association of Science Museum Directors and a member of the Board of Directors for the Greater Houston Partnership and the QueensCare Charitable Foundation. In 2019, he was named CEO of the Year by the Houston Business Journal.

Harris is one of seven new members appointed to the Board in the class of 2023. Completing his term this year is Dr. Mort Sajadian, the founder, president, and CEO of Amazement Square in Lynchburg, Virginia.
