A recent ASTC national survey finds 72% of U.S. adults believe science benefits them and 89% view federal STEM investment as important for economic prosperity. It is unclear the extent to which they associate federal actions with scientific information they use daily. Nearly half think private entities would replace cuts to federal funding, revealing a significant misunderstanding of government’s essential role in research.
This 30-minute public briefing explored these findings and discussed new implications for public engagement in science.
