Honorees should exemplify transformational leadership in their organization and beyond, demonstrate innovative thinking and practices within their field, impact the lives of others and the education community at large, and have the respect of peers and a reputation of inspiration to others.
The McGraw Prize recognizes individuals in three categories:
- Pre-K–12 Education
- Higher Education
- Lifelong Learning
Specific criteria for each category is available on the prize website.
The McGraw Prize was established in 1988 by the Board of Directors of McGraw-Hill to honor its Chair and CEO and his vigorous advocacy for education and educators. Previous winners include university presidents, educators, nonprofit leaders, school superintendents, journalists, political leaders, and former First Lady Barbara Bush.
Nominations will be reviewed by a distinguished awards jury including educational leaders and past recipients. Winners in each category will receive a $50,000 cash award and a Prize sculpture—and will be honored at a gala in New York.
Anyone age 18 or older can submit a nomination for themselves or others and there is no entry fee. Nominations are due March 1, 2025.
