This immersive experience, projected in the newly renovated 270-degree Space Center Theater, offers a fresh perspective on the historic Apollo missions and the upcoming Artemis program, providing an unparalleled look at humanity’s journey to the Moon.

Narrated by Academy Award Winner Tom Hanks, the film takes audiences behind the scenes of the Apollo missions and offers exclusive insight into the Artemis program. Featuring interviews with Hanks and Artemis astronauts, the film explores their extraordinary experiences on a truly spectacular scale.

Co-directed by Nick Corrigan and Lysander Ashton of 59 Studio, The Moonwalkers draws from videos and photographs captured by the 12 astronauts who walked on the Moon during the Apollo program. These stunning visuals, including photographs remastered by Andy Saunders for the bestselling book Apollo Remastered, bring the lunar missions to life in a way that has never been seen before.

Tom Hanks co-wrote The Moonwalkers with Christopher Riley, the award-winning writer-director known for his work on several groundbreaking space documentaries for the BBC, Netflix, and PBS.  The film features original NASA mission audio alongside Hanks’ narration, accompanied by a stunning original score composed by Anne Nikitin (American Animals, Hijack) and recorded by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at London’s iconic Abbey Road Studios.

On February 14, the 50-minute film will open to the public and be screened daily in the newly renovated Space Center Theater. With projections on three walls and the floor, it recreates the original production. The Moonwalkers offers guests a unique, ongoing opportunity to explore the wonders of space exploration.

How did this project come about?

Jeff Wyatt, Chief Experience Officer at Space Center Houston, saw the original production at Lightroom, in London.

The experience highlighted so much of what happens at NASA in Houston, from Mission Control, astronaut training, rovers, and the lunar samples, and even President John F. Kennedy’s historic speech; we have it all here at Space Center Houston.

Additionally, Space Center Houston connects the Apollo era missions to the current Artemis program for our visitors today. The Moonwalkers is a natural fit and a perfect addition.

After a series of meetings, Wyatt successfully negotiated to hold the first premiere in the Americas at Space Center Houston.
