The publisher of Nature magazine—in collaboration with Sense About Science—is seeking nominations for The John Maddox Prize, which honors researchers who stand up and speak out for science and evidence-based policy, advancing public discussion around difficult topics, despite challenges or hostility, and successfully making a change in public discourse or policy.
Winners will be selected for an Early Career Award (within 15 years of receiving their first/undergraduate degree) and the Maddox Prize (more than 15 years since receiving their first/undergraduate degree), each of which will receive €5000 to be used for initiatives linked to the award, coverage within nature.com and an invitation to attend the awards ceremony in November 2025.
Nominations and self-nominations are now open and will close on April 30, 2025.
The prize is named for Sir John Maddox, a champion and defender of science who served as a writer and editor of Nature.
