Join ASTC and leaders at Carnegie Science Center (CSC) in Pittsburgh, PA, on April 21 and 22, 2015, for a 1-1/2-day workshop designed to share an innovative model of STEM education development with science center CEOs and senior staff.
Expanding on the successful workshop ASTC and the Carnegie Science Center held in 2012, this event will convene colleagues at different stages of planning and implementing state and regional STEM centers. Participants will gain first-hand knowledge from CSC leadership and their community partners about the Center’s Leading Edge Award-winning Chevron Center for STEM Education and Career Development. Developed to create and deliver high quality and effective STEM education programs, the Chevron STEM Center provides a focused forum for collaboration among key STEM education stakeholders across the greater Pittsburgh region, including eastern Ohio and West Virginia.
Through modeling and peer networking, participants can start to develop a framework to place their science center in a pivotal role as convener and connector with STEM education and industry partners. Outcomes of the workshop will include proceedings that will detail major themes, questions, and benchmarks about how science centers can build STEM coalitions in their communities.
Agenda topics include:
- An update on the current status of Carnegie Science Center’s Chevron STEM Center
- A panel discussion with community and corporate partners, including Chevron, about why they support the STEM Center
- Strategies for coalition building and positioning science centers as STEM leaders
The workshop will begin with an informal group dinner at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, April 20 and will run from 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 21, through noon on Wednesday, April 22.
Participants may also take advantage of the opportunity to attend the 2015 STEM Summit, an all-day event on April 20, at Carnegie Science Center. For more information, visit www.pghtech.org/events/2015-stem-summit.aspx.
