ASTC 2020: Closing Keynote

As we count down to the end of the ASTC Virtual 2020 Annual Conference, we are highlighting the plenary sessions that will bring the community together.

Closing Keynote

“Long-term thinking amid crisis: Insights from the Optimist’s Telescope”

The final session at ASTC Virtual 2020 Annual Conference will feature Bina Venkataraman who will help us look beyond our immediate crises.

Venkataraman has written about the “optimist’s telescope,” which allows us to use long-term thinking to help forge a better future. Indeed, casting our gaze further than our immediate crises can not only help us plan for the future, but is often a form of relief and comfort and an opportunity to recenter ourselves on the big picture. For example, how would you describe what’s happening now in the world and with your life to someone 20 or more years in the future? For many, this is a challenging exercise as we tend to focus more on the immediate. Venkataraman will provide tools to help us think further ahead at the individual, institutional, and societal levels.
